Beginner Guide - Your First Run in Eternal Palace Sakura
How one Eternal Palace Sakura run works: branching map rooms, post-fight rewards, save rules, demo on Steam, and what to learn first—without unverified tips.
Eternal Palace Sakura (夢幻桜楼閣) is a single-player 3D action roguelite from Denneko Yuugi and Shochiku (Steam release 2026-11-04). You play as Retla, a dual-weapon fighter clearing a dream labyrinth one run at a time. This guide summarizes how a run is structured, what the map rooms do, and which systems sources say matter in run one—without inventing build numbers or unverified shortcuts.
What kind of game is this?
Steam’s genre tags and store copy describe a roguelite action loop: procedural routes, combat rooms, loot choices, and death sending you back to try again. Marketing also highlights Mugen Depth, a risk meter that rises as you power up—see the dedicated Mugen Depth guide before you chase every reward on the map.
Between runs, progression is lighter than a full RPG skill tree. English reviews and GameWith point to Sakura Trials (桜花の試練)—milestones that grant permanent unlocks such as Arts, starting HP, or Art Packs—rather than a broad always-on stat web. Vulgar Knight explicitly notes seeing no large permanent stat tree beyond that style of meta.
How is one run laid out?
Branching map and floors
On each floor, you move across a branching grid of room nodes. Official Steam map art shows icon types (combat, shops, events, and more) plus EC currency on the HUD (example 186 in one screenshot). Fog hides nodes you have not visited yet.

Official Steam screenshot. EC 186, LV/AP/HP/EXP, and Status (Tab) / Option (Esc) labels are one frame—not your guaranteed stats.
When you clear a floor’s route, stairs (階段) advance you to the next floor within an area. Area 1 is Sakura Pavilion (桜の楼閣) with five floors in GameWith and preview coverage; later areas such as Riverside Frontier (里境の川辺) are described in English reviews with tougher enemies.
Room types you can pick
English and Japanese walkthroughs name overlapping node types. The table below merges GameWith’s Japanese room list with NoobFeed’s English labels where they align.
| Room (EN) | Room (JA) | Role (sourced) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Combat room | 戦闘部屋 | Fixed enemy count; after victory, pick 1 of 3 rewards | GameWith; NoobFeed |
| Treasure / reward room | 宝の間 | Attribute or Arts-style exchanges | GameWith; NoobFeed |
| Shop | ショップ | Spend EC on goods | GameWith |
| Break Room | 休憩部屋 | HP recovery; also raises Mugen Depth | GameWith; NoobFeed |
| Random event | ランダムイベント | Variable outcomes; can buff or harm; sometimes free Attributes | GameWith |
| Sakura Room | 桜の間 | Trade HP to manage Mugen Depth / Depth Effects | GameWith; NoobFeed |
| Stairs | 階段 | Go to the next floor | GameWith |
| Shrine | — | Review-only: heal or wipe Mugen Depth | NoobFeed (single source, unconfirmed) |
Treasure rooms can show high-rank attribute picks. Trailer footage shows a 宝の間 scene with a Japanese attribute card (弱点マーカー, A rank)—UI language is Japanese in that clip, not proof of the English name on your PC settings.

Official trailer frame (Japanese UI). Rank and effect text describe one reward option, not a guaranteed drop.
Vulgar Knight also mentions epic and super epic combat tiers on the procedural map; treat those as review vocabulary until we capture matching EN UI strings.
Combat rewards and leveling
After combat rooms, the game presents Spoils of War-style choices: typically three options mixing Attributes, Arts Scrolls, or related upgrades (see Arts list for verified names we have cataloged).
Character level-ups—the GameWith walkthrough is explicit—happen only in combat rooms, not in shops, events, or treasure rooms. Plan your route so you do not expect XP spikes from non-combat nodes.
Combat itself runs on light and heavy chains, Arts on four slots, AP, Tension / Over-Tension, dodges, and shields. Run-one priorities from sources (not invented ratios):
- Read Mugen Depth before you spam Break Room heals or backtrack blindly—depth rises with rewards and movement.
- Open controls and combat basics to learn AP spending, perfect dodge and perfect block AP refunds (NoobFeed), and when Over-Tension unlocks Over Arts.
- When choosing starting or early Arts, use best starter picks—it only aggregates cited recommendations, not our own tier list fiction.
Death, saves, and what carries over
| Rule | Detail | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Run death | Game over restarts the run from the beginning | GameWith; NoobFeed |
| Mid-fight save | No save during combat | GameWith; NoobFeed |
| Save and Quit | Available on the map screen, not in fights | NoobFeed |
| Cloud saves | Steam lists Steam Cloud support for PC | Steam categories (official) |
Meta unlocks (Sakura Trials, new Arts, Art Packs, higher starting HP in examples from NoobFeed) persist between runs once conditions complete—they are not lost on death mid-run.
Demo, platform, and input
The Steam store page links a demo (app ID 4070720). Shochiku’s demo news describes tutorial flow, enemy variety, item/Arts progression, and reaching the demo boss on the last floor. If you are still deciding whether to buy, Is it worth it? compares price, review scores, and who the game fits.
Steam lists Full controller support on PC. GameWith mentions mouse, keyboard, and Xbox controller; NoobFeed describes RB lock-on and Arts on bumper + trigger or face button combos. Rebind options are not verified—see controls.
Nintendo Switch release timing appears in Japanese media (2026-11-05 in GameWith coverage); this English wiki page does not track Switch-specific save or performance claims.
